The helicity correlation of two back-to-back hadrons is a powerful tool that makes it possible to probe the longitudinal spin transfer, $G_{1L}$, in unpolarized hadronic collisions. In this work, we investigate the helicity correlation of back-to-back dihadrons produced in photon-nucleus collisions with both space-like and quasireal photons and explore its potential in understanding the flavor dependence of spin-dependent fragmentation functions. We present helicity amplitudes of partonic scatterings with both virtual and real photons and make numerical predictions for the dihadron helicity correlations at the future Electron Ion Collider experiment and the current RHIC/LHC ultra-peripheral collision experiment. Biological motors, as counterpart of heat engines, are driven by a chemical gradient to output mechanical work and play critical roles in biological functions, such as the ATP synthesis. Its thermodynamic efficiency, along with power, are two vital criteria for evaluating the performance of these motors. In this letter, we investigate a model of a microscopic chemical engine and assess the constraint relation between power and efficiency for the cycle with finite operation time. Our model demonstrates a general constraint relation between power and efficiency, and predicts that the efficiency at maximum power in the large friction regime is half of the maximum quasi-static efficiency, i.e., 1/2. Recent studies have attracted widespread attention on magnet-superconductor hybrid systems with emergent topological superconductivity. Here, we present the Floquet engineering of realistic two-dimensional topological nodal-point superconductors that are composed of antiferromagnetic monolayers in proximity to an s-wave superconductor. We show that Floquet chiral topological superconductivity arises naturally due to light-induced breaking of the effective time-reversal symmetry. More strikingly, we find that the Floquet chiral topological superconducting phases can be flexibly controlled by irradiating elliptically polarized light, with the photon-dressed quasi-energy spectrum carrying different Chern numbers. Such optically switchable topological transition is attributed to the simultaneous creations (or annihilations) of valley pairs. Our findings provide a feasible approach for achieving the Floquet chiral topological superconductivity with flexible tunability, which would draw extensive attention in experiments.

We highlight a situation having attracted little attention previously that in two-dimensional topological nodal superconductors, the Majorana edge states with breaking chiral symmetry but preserving nearly flat bands can have unexpected spin-singlet component of pairing correlations compared with the counterparts of exactly flat bands. Moreover, it is detectable by means of spin-selective Andreev reflection in a realistic topological nodal superconductor with antiferromagnetism, as the conductance peaks become the most outstanding when the spin polarization of incident electrons is (approximately) antiparallel to that of Majorana edge excitations. Therefore, our findings uncover another previously unexpected spin-dependent scenario for the Andreev reflection resonant peaks, and the related features constitute an important step forward in the quest for experimental detection of Majorana fermions in a system with the same kind of topological superconductivity., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

Signatures of superconductivity near 80 K were recently discovered in crystals of La-Ni-O with the stoichiometry of 3:2:7 under high pressures. Structural studies have shown conflicting results highlighting both the expected bilayer (2222) structure and an unexpected alternating monolayer-trilayer (1313) structure, both apparently showing superconductivity. Here, we perform angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy on crystals with the 1313 structure to elucidate the distinct electronic features compared to the previously studied 2222 structure. Our measurements suggest that a flat band of high electron density is much closer to the Fermi energy in the 1313 structure compared to the 2222 structure. Furthermore, we observe an additional electron pocket at the Brillouin zone center with Ni-$d_{z^2}$ orbital character, highlighting the importance of the out-of-plane orbital component. In comparison to LDA+U band structure calculations, we find strong renormalization of both the Ni-$d_{z^2}$ and Ni-$d_{x^2-y^2}$ derived bands, suggesting strong correlation effects beyond that of moderate Hubbard physics. These results reveal important differences in the electronic structure brought about by the distinct structural motifs with the same stoichiometry. In crystalline systems, higher-order topology, characterized by topological states of codimension greater than one, typically arises from the mismatch between Wannier centers and atomic sites, leading to filling anomalies. However, this phenomenon is less understood in aperiodic systems, such as quasicrystals, where Wannier centers are not well defined. In this study, we examine Fibonacci chains and squares, a quintessential type of quasicrystal, to investigate their higher-order topological properties. We discover that topological interfacial states, including corner states, can be inherited from their higher-dimensional periodic counterparts, such as the two-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. This finding is validated through numerical simulations of both phononic and photonic Fibonacci quasicrystals by the finite element method, revealing the emergence of topological edge and corner states at interfaces between Fibonacci quasicrystals with differing topologies inherited from their parent systems. Higher-order nodal line semimetals represent a recently proposed topological semimetal class that harbors bulk nodal lines and features gapless hinge Fermi arc excitations, governed by the bulk-hinge correspondence. In this study, we investigate the disorder effect on a higher-order nodal line semimetal and the consequent phase transitions. Within the pristine higher-order nodal line semimetal model, we unveil three distinct phases: higher-order nodal line semimetal, conventional nodal line semimetal, and normal insulator. The higher-order nodal line semimetal is characterized by one-dimensional hinge Fermi arc states connecting a pair of nodal rings, contrasting with conventional nodal line semimetals that exhibit two-dimensional drumhead surface states. We demonstrate that disorder can trigger multiple phase transitions within this system. Significantly, intermediate disorder can induce higher-order topology in an initial conventional nodal line semimetal or even an initial normal insulator. Further increase in disorder drives the system through a diffusive metallic phase before ultimately reaching the Anderson insulator regime. Two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES) can be implemented with different geometries, e.g., BOXCARS, collinear and pump-probe geometries. The pump-probe geometry has its advantage of overlapping only two beams and reducing phase cycling steps. However, its applications are typically limited to observe the dynamics with single-quantum coherence and population, leaving the challenge to measure the dynamics of the double-quantum (2Q) coherence, which reflects the many-body interactions. We propose an experimental technique in 2DES under pump-probe geometry with a designed pulse sequence and the signal processing method to extract 2Q coherence. In the designed pulse sequence with the probe pulse arriving earlier than pump pulses, our measured signal includes the 2Q signal as well as the zero-quantum (0Q) signal. With phase cycling and the data processing using causality enforcement, we extract the 2Q signal. The proposal is demonstrated with the rubidium atoms. And we observe the collective resonances of two-body dipole-dipole interactions of both $D_{1}$ and $D_{2}$ lines., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

In this paper, we propose a feasible conjugate gradient (FCG) method for calculating ${\mathcal B}$-eigenpairs of a symmetric tensor ${\mathcal A}$. The method is an extension of the well-known conjugate gradient method for unconstrained optimization problems to some curve constrained optimization problems. The proposed FCG method can find a ${\mathcal B}$-eigenpair of a symmetric tensor ${\mathcal A}$ without the requirement that the orders of ${\mathcal A}$ and $\mathcal B$ are equal. We pay particular attention to the Polak-Rib\'ire-Polyak (PRP) type conjugate gradient method. We show that the FCG method with some Armijo-type line search is globally convergent. Our numerical experiments indicate the promising performance of the proposed method.

Landauer's principle shows that the minimum energy cost to reset a classical bit in a bath with temperature $T$ is $k_{B}T\ln2$ in the infinite time. However, the task to reset the bit in finite time has posted a new challenge, especially for quantum bit (qubit) where both the operation time and controllability are limited. We design a shortcut-to-isothermal scheme to reset a qubit in finite time $\tau$ with limited controllability. The energy cost is minimized with the optimal control scheme with and without nonholonomic constraint. Topological superconductors are a class of unconventional superconducting materials featuring sub-gap zero-energy Majorana bound modes that hold promise as a building block for topological quantum computing. In this work, we study the realization of second-order topology that defines anomalous gapless boundary modes in a two-orbital superconductor with spin-orbital couplings. We reveal a time-reversal symmetry-breaking second-order topological superconducting phase with $d+id$-wave orbital-dependent paring without the need for the external magnetic field. Remarkably, this orbital-active $d$-wave paring gives rise to anomalous zero-energy Majorana corner modes, which is in contrast to conventional chiral $d$-wave pairing, accommodating one-dimensional Majorana edge modes. Our work not only reveals a unique mechanism of time-reversal symmetry breaking second-order topological superconductors but also bridges the gap between second-order topology and orbital-dependent pairings., Comment: 5+ pages, 5 figures

The low energy of the isomeric state of the radionuclide thorium-229 (229Th) makes it highly promising for applications in fundamental physics, precision metrology, and quantum technologies. However, directly accessing the isomeric state from its ground state remains a challenge. We propose here a tabletop approach utilizing the scanning tunneling microscope (STM) technique to induce excitation of a single 229Th nucleus. With achievable parameters, the isomeric excitation rate is advantageous over existing methods, allowing the excitation and control of 229Th on the single-nucleus level. It offers the unique potential of exciting and detecting subsequent decay from a single nucleus, providing a new direction for future experimental investigation of the 229Th isomeric state.

In the underdoped n-type cuprate Nd2-xCexCuO4, long-ranged antiferromagnetic order reconstructs the Fermi surface, resulting in a putative antiferromagnetic metal with small pockets. Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we observe an anomalous energy gap, an order of magnitude smaller than the antiferromagnetic gap, in a wide range of the underdoped regime and smoothly connecting to the superconducting gap at optimal doping. After carefully considering all the known ordering tendencies in tandem with the phase diagram, we hypothesize that the normal state gap in the underdoped n-type cuprates originates from Cooper pairing. The high temperature scale of the normal state gap raises the prospect of engineering higher transition temperatures in the n-type cuprates comparable to that of the p-type cuprates.

During a band-gap-tuned semimetal-to-semiconductor transition, Coulomb attraction between electrons and holes can cause spontaneously formed excitons near the zero-band-gap point, or the Lifshitz transition point. This has become an important route to realize bulk excitonic insulators -- an insulating ground state distinct from single-particle band insulators. How this route manifests from weak to strong coupling is not clear. In this work, using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and high-resolution synchrotron x-ray diffraction (XRD), we investigate the broken symmetry state across the semimetal-to-semiconductor transition in a leading bulk excitonic insulator candidate system Ta2Ni(Se,S)5. A broken symmetry phase is found to be continuously suppressed from the semimetal side to the semiconductor side, contradicting the anticipated maximal excitonic instability around the Lifshitz transition. Bolstered by first-principles and model calculations, we find strong interband electron-phonon coupling to play a crucial role in the enhanced symmetry breaking on the semimetal side of the phase diagram. Our results not only provide insight into the longstanding debate of the nature of intertwined orders in Ta2NiSe5, but also establish a basis for exploring band-gap-tuned structural and electronic instabilities in strongly coupled systems., Comment: 27 pages, 4 + 9 figures

Frequency up-conversion, enabled by molecular optomechanical coupling, has recently emerged as a promising approach for converting infrared signals into the visible range through quantum coherent conversion of signals. However, detecting these converted signals poses a significant challenge due to their inherently weak signal intensity. In this work, we propose an amplification mechanism capable of enhancing the signal intensity by a factor of 1000 or more for the frequency up-converted infrared signal in a molecular optomechanical system. The mechanism takes advantage of the strong coupling enhancement with molecular collective mode and Stokes sideband pump. In contrast to hole-doped cuprates, electron-doped cuprates consistently exhibit strong antiferromagnetic correlations with a commensurate ({\pi}, {\pi}) ordering wave vector, leading to the prevalent belief that antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations mediate Cooper pairing in these unconventional superconductors. However, early investigations produced two paradoxical findings: while antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations create the largest pseudogap at "hot spots" in momentum space, Raman scattering and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements using the leading-edge method seem to suggest the superconducting gap is also maximized at these locations. This presented a dilemma for spin-fluctuation-mediated pairing: Cooper pairing is strongest at momenta where normal state low energy spectral weight is most suppressed. Here we investigate this dilemma in Nd2-xCexCuO4 using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy under significantly improved experimental conditions. The unprecedented signal-to-noise ratio and resolution allow us to directly observe the Bogoliubov quasiparticles, demonstrating the existence and importance of two sectors of states: 1. The reconstructed main band and the states gapped by the antiferromagnetic pseudogap around the hot spots. 2. The gossamer Fermi surface states with distinct dispersion inside the pseudogap, from which Bogoliubov quasiparticle coherence peaks emerge below Tc. Supported by numerical results, we propose that the non-zero modulus of the antiferromagnetic order parameter causes the former, while fluctuations in the antiferromagnetic order parameter orientation are responsible for the latter. Developing from the transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy, the two dimensional (2D) spectroscopy with pump-probe geometry has emerged as a versatile approach for alleviating the difficulty on implementing the 2D spectroscopy with other geometries. However, the presence of cross-phase modulation (XPM) in TA spectroscopy introduces significant spectral distortions, particularly when the pump and probe pulses overlap. We demonstrate that this phenomenon is extended to the 2D spectroscopy with pump-probe geometry and the XPM is induced by the interference of the two pump pulse. We present the oscillatory behavior of XPM in the 2D spectrum and its displacement with respect to the waiting time delay through both experimental measurements and numerical simulations. Additionally, we explore the influence of probe pulse chirp on XPM and discover that by compressing the chirp, the impact of XPM on the desired signal can be reduced., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures

The Perron-Frobenius theorem says that the spectral radius of an irreducible nonnegative tensor is the unique positive eigenvalue corresponding to a positive eigenvector. With this in mind, the purpose of this paper is to find the spectral radius and its corresponding positive eigenvector of an irreducible nonnegative symmetric tensor. By transferring the eigenvalue problem into an equivalent problem of minimizing a concave function on a closed convex set, which is typically a DC (difference of convex functions) programming, we derive a simpler and cheaper iterative method. The proposed method is well-defined. Furthermore, we show that both sequences of the eigenvalue estimates and the eigenvector evaluations generated by the method $Q$-linearly converge to the spectral radius and its corresponding eigenvector, respectively. To accelerate the method, we introduce a line search technique. The improved method retains the same convergence property as the original version. Preliminary numerical results show that the improved method performs quite well.

The absence of semitauonic decays of charmed hadrons makes the decay processes mediated by the quark-level $c\to d \tau^+ \nu_{\tau}$ transition inadequate for probing a generic new physics (NP) with all kinds of Dirac structures. To fill in this gap, we consider in this paper the quasielastic neutrino scattering process $\nu_{\tau}+n\to \tau^-+\Lambda_c$, and propose searching for NP through the polarizations of the $\tau$ lepton and the $\Lambda_c$ baryon. In the framework of a general low-energy effective Lagrangian, we perform a comprehensive analysis of the (differential) cross sections and polarization vectors of the process both within the Standard Model and in various NP scenarios, and scrutinize possible NP signals. We also explore the influence on our findings due to the uncertainties and the different parametrizations of the $\Lambda_c \to N$ transition form factors, and show that they have become one of the major challenges to further constrain possible NP through the quasielastic scattering process., Comment: 31 pages, 17 figures, and 3 tables. Quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulators with high Chern number host multiple dissipationless chiral edge channels, which are of fundamental interest and promising for applications in spintronics and quantum computing. However, only a limited number of high-Chern-number QAH insulators have been reported to date. Here, we propose a dynamic approach for achieving high-Chern-number QAH phases in periodically driven two-dimensional higher-order topological insulators (HOTIs).In particular, we consider two representative kinds of HOTIs which are characterized by a quantized quadruple moment and the second Stiefel-Whitney number, respectively. Using the Floquet formalism for periodically driven systems, we demonstrate that QAH insulators with tunable Chern number up to four can be achieved. Moreover, we show by first-principles calculations that the monolayer graphdiyne, a realistic HOTI, is an ideal material candidate. Our work not only establishes a strategy for designing high-Chern-number QAH insulators in periodically driven HOTIs, but also provides a powerful approach to investigate exotic topological states in nonequilibrium cases., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

The existence of fractionally quantized topological corner states serves as a key indicator for two-dimensional second-order topological insulators (SOTIs), yet has not been experimentally observed in realistic materials. Here, based on effective model analysis and symmetry arguments, we propose a strategy for achieving SOTI phases with in-gap corner states in two dimensional systems with antiferromagnetic (AFM) order. We uncover by a minimum lattice model that the band topology originates from the interplay between intrinsic spin-orbital coupling and interlayer AFM exchange interactions. Using first principles calculations, we show that the 2D AFM SOTI phases can be realized in (MnBi$_2$Te$_4$)(Bi$_2$Te$_3$)$_{m}$ films. Moreover, we demonstrate that the nontrivial corner states are linked to rotation topological invariants under three-fold rotation symmetry $C_3$, resulting in $C_3$-symmetric SOTIs with corner charges fractionally quantized to $\frac{n}{3} \lvert e \rvert $ (mod $e$). Three-dimensional higher-order topological semimetals in crystalline systems exhibit higher-order Fermi arcs on one-dimensional hinges, challenging the conventional bulk-boundary correspondence. However, the existence of higher-order Fermi arc states in aperiodic quasicrystalline systems remains uncertain. In this work, we present the emergence of three-dimensional quasicrystalline second-order topological semimetal phases by vertically stacking two-dimensional quasicrystalline second-order topological insulators. These quasicrystalline topological semimetal phases are protected by rotational symmetries forbidden in crystals, and are characterized by topological hinge Fermi arcs connecting fourfold degenerate Dirac-like points in the spectrum. Our findings reveal an intriguing class of higher-order topological phases in quasicrystalline systems, shedding light on their unique properties.

To achieve fast computation, it is crucial to reset the memory to a desired state within a limited time. However, the inherent delay in the system's response often prevents reaching the desired state once the control process is completed in finite time. To address this challenge, we propose a shortcut strategy that incorporates an auxiliary control to guide the system towards an equilibrium state that corresponds to the intended control, thus enabling accurate memory reset. Through the application of thermodynamic geometry, we derive an optimal shortcut protocol for erasure processes that minimizes the energy cost. This research provides an effective design principle for realizing the finite-time erasure process while simultaneously reducing the energy cost, thereby alleviating the burden of heat dissipation.

Recently, an exotic quantum Hall ferromagnet with spin-filtered helical edge modes was observed in monolayer graphene on a high-dielectric constant substrate at moderate magnetic fields, withstanding temperatures of up to 110 Kelvin [L. Veyrat et al., Science 367, 781 (2020)]. However, the characteristic quantized longitudinal resistance mediated by these edge modes departs from quantization with decreasing temperature. In this work, we investigate the transport properties of helical edge modes in a graphene nanoribbon under a perpendicular magnetic field using the Landauer-Buttiker transport formalism. We find that the departure of quantization of longitudinal conductance is due to the helical-edge gap opened by the Rashba spin-orbital coupling. The quantization can be restored by weak nonmagnetic Anderson disorder at low temperature, increasing the localization length, or by raising temperature at weak disorder, through thermal broadening. The resulted conductance is very close to the quantized value 2e2/h, which is in qualitatively consistent with the experimental results. Furthermore, we suggest that the helical quantum Hall phase in graphene could be a promising platform for creating Majorana zero modes by introducing superconductivity., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

We study the information paradox of Reissner-Nordstr${\ddot{o}}$m anti-de Sitter (RN-AdS$_{d+1}$) black holes in the large dimension limit by using the island formula. The entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation is calculated both for the non-extremal and the extremal cases, in which the boundary of the radiation region is close to the outer horizon. For the non-extremal case, the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation obeys the Page curve, i.e. the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation increases with time and reaches saturation about twice Bekenstein-Hawking entropy at the Page time. For the extremal case, the entanglement entropy of Hawking radiation becomes ill-defined in the absence of the island due to the appearance of the singularity at the origin of the radial coordinate, while when the island exists, the entanglement entropy is found to be equal to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. In addition, for the case where the boundary of the radiation region is close to the horizon, there are some obvious constraints required by the existence of island solution for both non-extremal and extremal cases, which can be utilized to put constraints on the size of the black hole. These results reveal new features of the semi-classical large $d$ black holes from the island perspective.
